One-day registrations of passenger cars

From January to March 2009, 2 577 passenger cars were registered and deregistered within one day according to Statistics Austria. Compared to the same period in 2008, in spite of an increase of about a quarter (+24.9%) in February, the decrease (-12.7%) was very close to the decrease of the total number of registrations of new passenger cars (-12.9%). The share of one-day registrations of the total number of new car registrations (64 296 units) amounted to 4% in the first quarter of 2009.
Regarding the number of short-term registrations of passenger cars for up to 7 days, a decrease by 16.8% was observed; registrations for up to 30 days decreased (-12.6%) as well. Reductions of almost one-fifth (-18.5% and -18.3%) were observed for short-term registrations up to 60 days and 90 days, respectively.
