Economic crisis, job losses

The BGL Association (Bundesverband Güterkraftverkehr Logistik und Entsorgung) sees the German road forwarding industry to lose 60,000 to 70,000 jobs by summer 2009. More than 50% of these job losses are expected to result from the increase in Germany's HGV toll on 1 January 2009. In H1 2009 almost 44% and 46% of the forwarders plan to cut their fleets of trucks and driver workforces respectively, Logistics Finland reported.
