FDA appointments with food safety in mind

2009-01-15 00:00:00

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said it has appointed Lou Valdez to associate commissioner for international programs, and Lori Davis to chief information officer.

The FDA said Valdez will help lead implementation of the agency's international programs. In 2008, the FDA opened offices in China and announced plans for additional offices in India, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

Prior to this appointment, Valdez served as deputy director of the Health and Human Services Department's Office of Global Health Affairs.

Davis joined the FDA as deputy chief information officer in November 2007, and has helped restructure the Office of Information Management and centralize information technology project budgets and resources. The FDA recently commenced a multiyear information technology modernization program.
