'Cursed' cruise ship returns to port

2008-01-07 00:00:00

A cruise ship said to have been struck by the "Curse of Camilla" is returning to the UK.

Almost 80 people on the Queen Victoria have been confined to their berths after contracting the norovirus.

The liner set sail from Southampton for a 16-day cruise around the Canary Islands on December 21.

But dozens of the 3,000 passengers and crew started to go down with the highly contagious vomiting bug within days of leaving port.

The ship was launched last month by the Duchess of Cornwall.

But Camilla failed to smash the bottle of champagne against the side - a sign of impending bad luck among superstitious sailors.
