Philippine ports fail November collection targets

2008-12-08 00:00:00

The ports of Manila, Batangas and Ninoy Aquino International Airport and six others failed to meet their collection goals in November, the Manila Standard reported.

Port of Manila collected US$66.7 million against its $82.9 million target while Batangas recorded $74.8 million against the goal of $95 million. Naia posted $28.3 million, short of its $38.4 million target.

Port of Tacloban collected $423,569 against its $826,969 target; Surigao suffered a $62,527 shortfall with collections of $24,203 for the month while Port of Zamboanga missed its $101,075 target by $86,924.

Customs Commissioner Napoleon Morales earlier said all non-performing assets would be the first to be removed from office once the agency enforced a reshuffle next month.

Morales said Customs would have to enforce the reshuffle to have a better chance of reaching the revenue goal of $6.4 billion set by the Finance Department.
