Richardson to lead Commerce Department

2008-12-05 00:00:00

President-elect Barack Obama ended two weeks of speculation by formally naming Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico to be secretary of commerce.

Richardson is a former secretary of energy and United Nations ambassador during the Clinton administration, who endorsed Obama last spring after dropping out of the Democratic race for president.

At Commerce, his job will be to support business growth and promote American exports in foreign markets.
