Hamburg - Cunard's new cruise liner the Queen Victoria, launched earlier this month, entered Hamburg harbour Tuesday at the start of a day-long visit to the northern German port. The Queen Victoria, a sister ship to the British cruise company's Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2, was launched on December 10 by Camilla Parker Bowles, the wife of Britain's Prince Charles, with the words: "May God bless her and all who sail in her."
The traditional bottle of champagne failed to break on first impact on the bows of the 90,000-ton vessel - regarded as a bad omen in nautical circles.
Although the Queen Victoria is considerably smaller than the 150,000-tonne Queen Mary 2, Cunard regards it as its most luxurious liner ever.
The Queen Victoria is 300 metres long and can carry more than 2,000 passengers in style.
It began its maiden voyage in the southern English port of Southampton a week ago, sailing to Rotterdam, Copenhagen and Oslo, before docking in Hamburg.
It was due to depart Tuesday evening.
