Hamburg Süd to improve the transparency of pricing policy

2008-09-12 00:00:00

With the repeal of EU regulation 4056/86, all European conferences cease to operate as of

18 October 2008. At the same time each carrier will introduce an independent tariff, surcharge

and fee structure.

Hamburg Süd has been preparing for this new era thoroughly and its new tariff structure will be introduced with effect from 1 October 2008 for all European trades.

This new era is an opportunity for Hamburg Süd to improve the quality and the transparency of

our pricing policy.

The structure of all European tariffs will be harmonised as much as possible. However,

Hamburg Süd recognises the diversity of markets, remains flexible to respond to its customers’

requirements and will combine continuity with a simplified approach. The formulae for the

Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) of all European trades have been harmonised and follow the

same transparent logic. The principle is based on a true and fair cost reflection.

Hamburg Süd will apply an imbalance logic where the dominant leg pays a proportion of the

empty return for the generated surplus. In addition, Hamburg Süd will introduce specific Reefer

BAF in all trades. BAF will be adjusted monthly, providing 30 days notice

towards the 15th of each month. Terminal Handling Charges (THC’s) have been reviewed and will reflect the present cost levels in each port. There will be one THC per port, regardless of the service involved.
