Hong Kong terminal deploying electric rubber-tired gantry cranes

Hongkong International Terminals (HIT) Monday started the first phase of a HK$140 million ($18 million) crane-electrification program designed to reduce emissions at Kwai Tsing Container Port.

The terminal is now deploying 17 electric rubber-tired gantry cranes (eRTGCs). HIT has also launched hybrid RTGCs that combine battery power with ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) engines. The terminal operator is a member of Hong Kong抯 Business Environmental Council and a signatory of the 2006 Clean Air Charter.

HIT is part of the Hong Kong-based Hutchison Port Holdings (HPH) Group, which has interests in a total of 47 ports in 24 countries.
