2011-06-09 00:00:00

Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) is considering the disposal of up to 14 vessels by next year, the same period where it plans to add 17 vessels to its fleet. SCI is planning to sell two bulk carriers of 25 years old and 20 years old. It is also evaluating the sale of 10 offshore supply vessels and two passenger ships, all of which will turn 25 years by next year. “We are considering selling some of these ships. We might retain a few,” said Sabyasachi Hajara, chairman of SCI. SCI is likely to get $5-7m per vessel from the disposal. The Indian firm is going to take delivery of 17 vessels during 2012. Hajara added that the company may venture into the business of rigs as it is already in talks with some operators. It is also working on a blueprint to start shipbuilding activity.
