YANGTZE River Express has launched new cargo air route between Chongqing and Europe, linking Shanghai, Chongqing, Moscow and Luxembourg, reports Xinhua.
Flights depart twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays, from Shanghai to Chongqing, Moscow, Luxembourg and then back to Shanghai, deploying a 747-400SF.
The first Yangtze River Express 747 flew to Moscow and then on to Luxembourg carrying 95 tonnes of cargo, mostly information technology products. Eighty 80 per cent of air cargo from Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is made up of IT products.
Chongqing flies out HP, Acer and other IT company products to serve an industry that is fast growing in the city. "This is an opportunity for us to enter Chongqing market," said Yangtze River Express marketing chief Zhu Zhiyong.
The operation of the new route will help the company extend its reach to Russia, using Moscow as the hub, creating another link to central and western Europe with Luxembourg as another base.
Other air routes connecting Chongqing with Taipei and Guangzhou, which became operational recently, will help the western Chinese metropolis become a hub for cargo from in Europe and Taiwan, said Xinhua.
Thanks to the IT boom, Chongqing air cargo volume in the first four months of this year soared 580 per cent year on year to 18,000 tonnes, according to airport ground handling executive Shao Jin.
Jade Cargo and TNT Group have opened cargo routes from Chongqing to Europe last year and the year before.
