AFFECTED state restrictions on consumption, fuel price increases and the Japanese earthquake, Guangdong province, the country's major car market, posted sharp declines in automotive imports and value in the first four months of 2011.
The Guandong Statistics Bureau revealed that the province imported 5,577 vehicles from January to April, down 53.5 per cent year on year with value plunging 72.7 per cent to US$170 million.
While auto retail sales grew 22.3 per cent in the first four months, growth was 17.2 per cent slower year on year.
