WAL-MART again held its No 1 spot as top US container importer in the latest annual ranking of The Journal of Commerce Top 100, increasing its shipping volume into the United States 1.8 per cent in 2010.
The world's largest retailer imported 696,000 TEU last year, up from 684,000 TEU in 2009. The company also was No 39 on the Top Exporters 2010 list with 28,000 TEU shipped out of the US.
Wal-Mart, which employs two million people, brought in US$405 billion in net sales in its last fiscal year ending January 31, and has 8,416 stores worldwide, split 50:50 foreign and domestic.
