2011-05-30 00:00:00

MAERSK Line has announced it is starting a new liner service to Papua New Guinea, called the PNG Express, "believing the Papua New Guinea market is set to see significant growth over the next few years and this growth will require more capital to support the supply chain in and out of the country," a statement said.

The port rotation will be: Tanjung Pelepas: Jakarta, Port Moresby, Lae, Madang, returning to Tanjung Pelepas.

The service will deploy two vessels: the Reecon Wolf and the Vega Fynen. The Reecon Wolf is able to carry 874 TEU and has 314 reefer plugs, while the other can carry 712 TEU with 220 reefer plugs. The first sailing on the fortnightly service will be operated by the Reecon Wolf, sailing from Tanjung Pelepas on June 6, heading for Port Moresby.

The service is aimed at providing "new opportunities for customers in China, particularly, those who want to expand their business in Papua New Guinea." The carrier said it offers daily transshipment to PNG service.
