MARIS, the maritime onboard systems specialist, has reached agreement with weather and performance systems supplier GAC-SMHI Weather Solutions covering the integration of the MARIS Voyage Decision Support (VDS) system and GAC-SMHI’s weather routing advice and shore-based fleet monitoring software.
The MARIS VDS offers logging, storage, communication and display functionality and ECDIS-related functionality such as route planning. The VDS is an innovative electronic tool based on ECDIS.
Among other benefits, more than 5% fuel savings have been documented, with up to 15 days sea-time saved per year. The VDS can also be used as an ECDIS back-up.
GAC-SMHI Weather Solutions is the developer and supplier of high quality weather and performance systems including the FleetWeb and VisPer family of programs. GAC SMHI Weather Solutions is highly experienced in providing onboard weather data, including direct meteorological routing advice and shore-based fleet monitoring and analysing functionalities.
The parties have agreed to cooperate in the development, marketing and sales of the integrated system which marries the GAC-SMHI FleetWeb and VisPer programs to MARIS VDS and ECDIS. The MARIS VDS is designed to plan and execute the voyage and then to document and analyse the result. The VDS design consists of several shipboard and shore-based modules.
GAC-SMHI Weather Solutions are relied upon by both the crew and the ship operators to help ensure safe and economic ship operations at sea. Key features are the active weather routing provided, together with accurate weather data, detailed documentation and analytical functionalities.
