Free Port of Ventspils plans to increase cargo throughput by 20% from 2010’s figures, to 30 million tons until 2014, the port’s Chief Executive Officer Imants Sarmulis said speaking at the Baltic Forum, PortNews correspondent reported. In coming years, freight turnover of Ventspils is projected to reach 27 million tons a year.
According the port’s CEO, the lowest in the region port charges will contribute to the attractiveness of the port.
Latvia’s Free port of Ventspils is a deepwater ice-free port. The country’s premier port ranks among leading ports on the Baltic Sea and top 20 European ports. In 2010, the port’s throughput dropped year-over-year 6.8% to 24,815,000 tons. In the next three years, Port of Ventspils plans to boost cargo volume by 20% to 30 million tons.
