Hong Kong, Tianjin, to strengthen shipping and logistics partnership

THE Department Foreign Direct Investment of Hong Kong (Invest Hong Kong) recently held a seminar in Tianjin to encourage local logistics and shipping service operators to strengthen cooperation with Hong Kong, Xinhua reports.


Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Victoria Tang said Hong Kong provide ideal environment and opportunities for investors with world-class infrastructures and logistics and traffic facilities. It has the world's busiest cargo airport and the world's third largest container port. Its favourable geographical location enables it to ship cargo to mainland China, Japan, Korea, Australia and South East Asia in five hours.


Miss Tang also said that mainland shipping and logistics companies can enjoy greater convenience and professional services in law, arbitration, insurance and financing in Hong Kong.


Last year, the two cities achieved a trade value of US$2.67 billion. Hong Kong has become one of the closest trade partners of Tianjin and the most important investment origin for Tianjin. Hong Kong interests have invested in 6,820 Tianjin projects.


As of the end of 2010, there were nine Tianjin companies listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange. Tianjin also has 127 companies supported by Hong Kong investment of more than $220 million.


A senior official from the Tianjin Commission of Commerce said, as one of the world's financial, trade and shipping centre, Hong Kong's market concept, operational philosophy, its ability to expand and manage know-how are among world's best. Tianjin sees great potential in the partnership with Hong Kong and the both sides can reap mutual benefit through cooperation.
