EAST China's Port of Lianyungang in Jiangsu province lifted 40 million tonnes of cargo during the period from January to March, 21.5 per cent more than in the same period in the prior year and slightly ahead of the quarterly schedule.
The port is aiming to achieve a throughput of 160 million tonnes by the end of this year, according to Xinhua. In the first quarter, the port strengthened its railroad car cargo loading and discharging efficiency and broke record by loading 2,104 cars a day, and set a new daily loading and discharging high of 2,750 cars.
Lianyungang is the first stop of new Eurasia land bridge which extends westwards to Amsterdam and starts operation in December 1992.
