South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and Indonesia's shipbuilder PT Dok & Perkapalan Kodja Bahari (DKB) will jointly build a shipyard in Batam Island, Indonesia. The yard will be built on a 40-hectare site on the island, according to Amir Sambodo, special staff of Indonesia's coordinating minister for economic affairs, speaking to reporters on Wednesday night.
DSME and DKB will also develop a floating LNG terminal to serve LNG carriers, a boon to Indonesia's growing LNG market. The investment amount committed by DSME for its Indonesia venture was not disclosed. The new yard plan follows a visit by Korean delegates to Indonesia on Wednesday to bridge economic partnership between the two countries.
