2011-05-20 00:00:00

DEUTSCHE Post DHL has announced that Danzas AEI Emirates, its joint venture with the Al Tayer Group, has launched a scheduled air freight service into Dubai World Central (DWC).

The inaugural flight from Frankfurt-Hahn to Dubai World Central was carrying 37 unit load devices with approximately 75 tons of commercial cargo for more than 85 customers. The service also flew to Al Maktoum International Airport in Jebel Ali, reports AME Info.

It said the service is intended to offer faster turnaround times to customers and more streamlined operations. The operators of this twice-weekly air freight service intend to boost the frequency, depending on the growth in future demand.

"The DWC project, and its direct connectivity to Jebel Ali free zone and port, underlines Dubai's position as a key multi-modal logistics hub for the future," Enver Moretti, CEO, DHL Global Forwarding Middle East, North Africa and Turkey, was quoted as saying.

"With this new service, Danzas AEI will now provide a faster delivery from wheels down to door, particularly for those customers based in the Jebel Ali Free Zone. We are excited with this new opportunity and will endeavour to further expand our services to and from Dubai World Central," said Dennis Lister, air freight manager Danzas AEI Emirates.

The report noted that the new air freight service will leverage on DWC's direct connectivity to Jebel Ali Free Zone (JAFZA) and Jebel Ali Port. It will target customers located in JAFZA, particularly, those involved in non-oil foreign exports amid growth in the trade of high value commodities.
