Port Corpus Christi Commissioners have approved a one year exclusive lease option agreement for the port's La Quinta Trade Gateway Terminal project with Global Terminal Advisors (GTA), the multi-national consultancy dedicated to ports and port operations.
GTA will be responsible for the design, build, financing and operation of the terminal and the development of the business plan. The port authority will be responsible for the extension of La Quinta Channel, maintenance dredging, utilities, along with highway and rail connections.
La Quinta Trade Gateway is a major component of the port authority's long-term development plan. Located on a 1,100 acre greenfield site on the north side of Corpus Christi Bay, the fully approved project, when completed, will provide a multi-purpose dock and container facility.
Features of the terminal include the extension of the 14 metre (45 feet) La Quinta Ship Channel as well as the construction of a 1.1 km three berth quay, served by nine ship-to-shore cranes.
The 180 acre container/cargo storage yard will have an annual throughput capacity of approximately 1m teu. The terminal would be served by an intermodal rail yard and has over 400 acres available for on-site distribution and warehouses.
