DHL Global Forwarding plans to open over the next 12 months four oil and energy centres that will target Africa's logistics industry in Cape Town, Luanda Accrac and Mombasa.
The move comes amid forecasts that African oil production capacity will reach 7.4 million barrels a day by 2014, making Africa a key investment destination amid growing global demand for energy from the continent.
Amadou Diallo, CEO for Africa and South Asia Pacific, said in a company statement that the centres will offer customers logistics advice specific to the oil and energy sector in order for customers to build their supply chain using the company's global network.
By the second quarter of 2012, DHL said teams employed at these centres will be able to consult with clients on the design of the supply chain and implement logistics solutions that will be able to overcome challenges such as the continent's diverse customs environments and remote production locations.
Sam Ang, CEO, Southeast Asia and head of oil and energy for Africa and Asia Pacific, said: "We are well-positioned to expand our offering to oil and energy companies who wish to operate in Africa, and transfer industry best practices" via the centres.
