France records less enterprise births in April

France recorded a smaller number of enterprise births in April compared with that in March and the same month of last year, French national statistics bureau Insee said on Wednesday.


Enterprise births dropped 22.8 percent excluding self-managed enterprises (seasonally and working-day adjusted data) from March, while including the number of self-managed enterprises, the decrease was 18.3 percent to 42,984 births.


Adding up February, March and April, the number of enterprise births fell by 18.7 percent compared with the same three-month period a year before. The decrease in service activities and household services mainly contributed to the contraction, Insee said.


Self-managed enterprises play a vital role in creating enterprises in France. From January to April, one out of two enterprise births were self-managed enterprises, totalling 101,895.
