THE Seaspan Corporation, an independent charter owner of containerships, has taken delivery of the 4,500-TEU Berlin Bridge from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.
The new containership is Seaspan's fifth delivery so far this year and brings the total number of vessels in its operating fleet to 60.
The charter owner said in a statement that the Berlin Bridge is on charter to "K" Line under a 12-year, fixed-rate time charter with options for "K" Line to extend the charter term by up to six years. The vessel is the fourth of five 4,500-TEU sister ships and the sixth of a total of seven vessels to be chartered by Seaspan to "K" Line.
