THE southern island province of Hainan achieved a cargo volume of 53.1 million tonnes in the first quarter, 10 per cent more than in the same period last year, Xinhua reports.
Waterborne volume recorded the fastest growth of 11.3 per cent to 21.7 million tonnes, representing 40.8 per cent of the province's total. Road transport was the next with an increase of 9.7 per cent to 29.9 million tonnes, taking up 56.2 per cent of the provincial total. Railway transportation volume dropped to 1.5 million tonnes, taking up 2.8 per cent of the total. Air transportation volume registered five tonnes.
