Brazilian oil and gas giant Petrobras announced Wednesday it had signed an agreement with a Japanese oil consortium on the study of technical feasibility of flexible pipes for oil production in the pre-salt oil reserves.
According to Petrobras, the study is its second collaboration projects with Japan Oil, Gas, and Metals National Corporation (Jogmec).
In 2005, Petrobras and Jogmec signed an agreement of collaboration on several activities of mutual interest.
The study aims at evaluating the technical feasibility of the production of flexible tubes, which would be used in Brazil's pre-salt oil reserves, located in ultradeep waters, off the country's coast.
The technical feasibility study is expected to be completed by December 2014. After the project's technical validation, the possibility of setting up a production plant in Brazil will be evaluated.
Petrobras's previous joint research project with Jogmec started in 2006 and focused on mono-column Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) systems. The project has been completed and showed promising results.
