CHINA Shipping Container Line (CSCL) has held a launch party for the opening of Phase 2 of its terminal in the Port of Los Angeles, Xinhua reports.
The project expands the terminal over 57 hectares with an annual capacity of 1.5 million TEU. It now has eight quay cranes and can operate two megaships at the same time.
China Shipping signed a 25-year lease contract with LA port authority in May 2001. The first phase started running in June 2004. The Phase 2 project is expected to greatly increase China Shipping's business capacity at the US west coast while enhancing port of LA's competitive edge. The project is also expected to generate 8,500 jobs in the local economy.
