Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau has issued a typhoon warning for approaching Tropical Storm Aere, which is increasing in speed to 25 kilometres per hour. The bureau said the storm was about 650 km south of Taiwan's southern tip as of Monday morning and was moving north. Ships in the Bashi Channel off the southern coast are advised to brace for the storm and heavy rain may hit eastern and southern Taiwan.
Elsewhere, the Hong Kong Marine Department has also issued a warning on the approaching typhoon season which typically runs from May until September. The department has urged masters, owners, agents and persons in control of vessels to comply with any directions from the director of marine concerning the safe operations of vessels and the port.
