Port of Antwerp International (PAI), a subsidiary of the Antwerp Port Authority, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Brazil’s Companhia Docas do Espírito Santo (CODESA) in which the two parties will collaborate in the development of a new 750,000 teu deep water container terminal in the Port of Vitória, Espírito Santo.
Phase one of the collaboration will focus on consultancy with subsequent phases addressiong investment, training and the development of commercial relations. The new container port at Vitória’s Ponta do Tubarao will be expandable to 1.2m teu and should be operational within three to five years.
The MoU was signed by Angelo Baptista, CEO of CODESA, Marc Van Peel and Yannick Dufraimont, respectively chairman and CEO of PAI.
“The Brazilian government will invest heavily in port infrastructure in the coming years. The construction of a new port in Vitória which can receive large container ships is a priority [and] the partnership between the Port of Antwerp and CODESA is very important to the success of this project,” said Mr Baptista.
