Freight rates in the Asia-Europe trade lane fell in the four weeks ended 8 April for box liner NOL, leading to lower average revenue per feu. The Singapore-based line, however, recorded greater shipping volumes in the same period due to higher trading activities on the intra-Asia and Asia-Europe lanes.
Its average revenue of $2,557 per feu from 12 March to 8 April dipped 2% compared to $2,622 per feu in the corresponding period of 2010. “The decline in average revenue per feu was due mainly to falling rates in the Asia-Europe trade lane and trade mix effect associated with higher volumes lifted in the intra-Asia trade lane,” NOL said. Container shipping volumes (feu) rose 12% to 229,700 in the period this year compared to 204,400 a year ago.
