AP Moller-Maersk's newly created short-sea container carrier, Seago Line, is expected to assume control of the intra-European sea freight services provided by group members' Maersk Line and Safmarine in May.
A report by Alphaliner said the start-up shipping line that is headquartered in Copenhagen will focus on the intra-Europe, Mediterranean and North Africa trades and is modelled after MCC Transport, which handles the group's intra-Asia volumes.
It said Seago Line has already set up 16 local offices and aims to establish representation in more than 25 countries.
At present the Maersk group is said to operate 58 ships, providing more than 90,000 TEU in capacity, on dedicated intra-European routes.
