Hactl air cargo volume down 9.3pc to 225,791 tonnes in April

THE airport's No 1 ground handler, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) has announced that its throughput for April declined 9.3 per cent year on year to 225,791 tonnes, which represents a fall of 1.1 per cent to 876,136 tonnes from the first of the year.


Exports fell 11.6 per cent in April to 122,123 tonnes and declined 4.1 per cent to 457,236 tonnes in the first four months of the year. April imports were down 6.4 per cent year on year to 57,748 tonnes, and declined 1.3 per cent to 233,138 tonnes since the first of the year.


"On account of the earthquake and the tsunami and nuclear crises, imports from Japan in April showed a year-on-year decrease of 28.1 per cent," said the Hactl statement.


The transhipments fell 6.1 per cent to 45,920 tonnes in April with cumulative total showing the only increase of 7.6 per cent to 185,762 tonnes.
