Mafika Mkwanazi, chairman of Transnet, has revealed that the organisation is considering building a new $14.5bn port in Durban, Port Strategy reports.If approved, construction could start in 2015, with an initial phase operational by 2019.
The container terminal will be able to handle 6m teu, which will be double that of facilities at the existing port.
If the scheme goes ahead, it will require private finance.
