FedEx Express builds regional air freight hub in Singapore

2011-05-04 00:00:00

FEDEX Express is building a new regional hub for handling expedited delivery packages at Singapore's Changi Airport. The facility is expected to boost the company's connections with global markets and support the Lion City's aim of becoming a leading air freight hub in southeast Asia.

The 282,700-square-foot centre will be the company's second largest operations facility in the Asia Pacific region, following its base at Guangzhou in South China. Slated for completion in the second half of 2012, the Singapore facility will provide delivery, pick-up and air freight services.

Located within Changi Airport's free trade zone and beside the airport logistics park, the centre will be equipped with a five-belt sort system with a capacity to sort up to 9,000 packages per hour and house over 250 delivery vans. It will also include two new aircraft parking bays and be linked to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and Singapore Customs for cargo clearance.
