China Eastern Airlines’ first-quarter net profit rose 32 percent from a year earlier, while Air China’s profit fell 23 percent, reported Dow Jones Newswires.
China Eastern’s gain was attributed to stronger air travel demand.
The Shanghai-based airline's net profit for the three months ended March 31 totalled US$154.19 million, up from $118.59 million a year earlier.
Revenue rose 17 percent to $2.8 billion from $2.4 billion.
Air China’s profit fall was due to one-time gains being lower compared with the same period last year.
The Chinese flag carrier's net profit for the three months ended March 31 totalled $257.24 million, down from $334.25 billion a year earlier.
Revenue rose 45 percent to $3.27 billion from $2.26 billion.
