Dutch-based container ports operator APM Terminals may invest in a Russian Baltic port, according to information disclosed by the Russian Government ahead of Prime Minister Putin's visit in Denmark and Sweden, reported ADPnews Shipping.
APM Terminals is considering running the port of Baltiysk in Kaliningrad, envisaged to handle six million TEUs a year, the Russian government said and added that the whole project was estimated at minimum US$3.5 billion. The potential share of APM Terminals was not mentioned.
The port operator, however, has not confirmed the speculation. APM Terminals is interested in the Kaliningrad region but it is too early to speak of the project as something definite, spokesman Erik Eisenberg told Danish site Business.dk today.
APM Terminals is part of Danish oil and shipping group AP Moller Maersk.
