Chongqing airport first quarter cargo value surges 236pc

2011-05-03 00:00:00

IN the first three months, southwest China's Chongqing airport saw robust growth in both cargo and passenger volume. During this period, it handled 8,960 batches of imports and exports, up 80.3 per cent year on year with cargo value soaring 235.9 per cent to US$571 million.

Xinhua's report said the sharp growth in cargo volume was a result of increase in late night flights and cargo charter flights. Meanwhile, Chongqing customs launched series of measures to secure fast clearance, which also contributed to growth.

To keep in pace with the development of Chongqing's laptop manufacturing, the customs has set up exclusive clearance counter for IT products, keeping clearance time down to 10 minutes. During the first quarter, Chongqing customs has handled 2,655 batches of a total of 599,600 laptop exports, with a value of over US$200 million.
