2011-05-03 00:00:00

NINGBO airport's international express package handling centre has passed the customs inspections and will soon be operational, Xinhua reports.

The facility is on the ground floor of the Ningbo airport customs clearance centre building, covering a floor area of about 1,000 square metres, and is said to be able to handle 10,000 tonnes of cargo a year. It is equipped with electronic and x-ray scanning as well as closed-circuit TV surveillance.

Air express is faster and safer than traditional air cargo and postal services. Transcontinental package delivery can be done within five days while regional deliveries take less than three, the report said.

China's air express business is growing year by year and now accounts for 50 per cent of the air cargo volume.
