CENTRAL China's big city Wuhan has started developing the first public Internet portal offering real-time logistics information, Xinhua reports.
The website serves as a platform for shippers and truckers to find each other, and mainly provide relevant information of the Dongxihu District logistics hub, located west of the city.
Jointly developed by China Telecom and government of the Dongxihu District, the portal contains five core parts for road transportation information, warehousing information, multi-modal information, e-commerce, and intelligent logistics. The development will have two phases and be finished in three years. The first phase will be completed by the end of this year and offers road transportation and warehousing information.
According to Gong Bo, general manager of the China Telecom Wuhan Office, shippers and truckers can post their information on the site using mobile phones when they are searching for carriers, or have completed collecting or delivering cargo.
Dongxihu District has three million square metres of warehouse space, which is the largest in Hubei province. It is the gateway to Wuhan. Most of the trucks need to pass the district before they enter the city. Before the information portal was launched, trucks from outside the city need to park in the logistics hub to stay on call, resulting in low efficiency of about two run a week only.
