PORT of Yangpu, in the southern island province of Hainan posted a year-on-year 53 per cent increase in container throughput to 57,800 TEU in the first quarter.

The number of containerships arriving and leaving the port increased 29 per cent to 85 sailings, said Xinhua.

Growing transshipment volume and increasing trade lanes were said to be the reasons for the port's box throughput surge. The port is operating 16 domestic and international routes to including Guangzhou, Qinzhou, Taicang and Vietnam's Haiphong.
