THE Port of New Orleans' Napoleon Avenue container terminal handled 81,987 TEU in the first two months of the year, an increase of 22.8 per cent compared to the same period the previous year, and the latest period for which figures are available.
In March the terminal's four container cranes logged a record 927.2 hours, up 25 per cent year on year.
Meanwhile, work is continuing on a US$29.5 million programme to increase the terminal's 594,000-TEU capacity, according to comments made by port CEO Gary LaGrange, according to American Shipper. Two new container gantry cranes are due to be delivered by mid-May and will be installed by September.
