Nevsky Shipyard held today a keel-laying ceremony for the second self-propelled dry-cargo ship of Project RSD49, the shipbuilder’s press service said. The vessel belongs to a series of 10 dry cargo "river-sea" mixed class being built for North-Western Shipping Company (NWSC).

The vessel is designed for transportation of general, bulk cargo and timber cargo. The second hold of the vessel is 50-meter long, which allows shipment of long-length cargo, such as large diameter pipes for gas and oil industry. The ship is suited for transportation of packaged lumber, scrap metal, long-length, heavy cargo and a number of dangerous goods.

The shipbuilder has been constructing the series ships from December 2010. The series lead ship was laid on December 14. The Project was developed by Marine Engineering Bureau-Design St. Pb. The vessels are built to the class KM Ice2 R2 AUT1-C according to the rules and under the supervision of Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS).

The Project RSD49 vessels dimensions: LOA - 139.95 m, beam overall - 16,7 m, 3.6m fresh water draft - about 4,525dwt, 4.7m salt water draft - about 7,000dwt. The vessels will become the largest dry cargo ships that meet the dimensions of the Volga-Don Canal, the shipbuilding firm said.

Nevsky Shipyard LLC, a subsidiary of JSC North-Western Shipping Company (part of UCL Holding), is located 40 km from Saint-Petersburg in Shlisselburg on the left bank of the Neva River. The company has been engaged in shipbuilding since 1952. Nevsky Shipyard builds sea-going and river vessels of various types and purposes and provides all kinds of ship repair. Nevsky Shipyard’s slipway allows launching and lifting for repair 140-m-long vessels with dock weight of up to 2500 tons.
