The Lithuanian authorities are looking for investors who would be willing to participate in the project for building a new deepwater port, the Lithuania Ministry of Transport said.
The project will reportedly be implemented on the concession agreement. This week, the concept of the projected port will be presented to the China’s Transport Ministry.
The maximum depth of the port will be 17 meters, while the maximum depth in the port of Klaipeda is 13-14,5 meters. The project’s feasibility study and environmental impact assessment should be completed in spring 2012. Their results will affect the decision on the new port’s location. The country’s authorities weigh up two options for the new port site - Melnrage and Butinge.
