2011-04-19 00:00:00

South Korean President Lee Myung- bak met Monday with a visiting U.S. senator over a two-way trade deal and security situations in the region, Lee's office said.

Sen. Jim Webb, a Virginia Democrat who chairs the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee, is on a three-day visit scheduled to end on Tuesday.

Lee noted Webb has made special efforts to address what they consider provocative acts by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and get the free trade agreement endorsed, and asked for further cooperation, according to his office Cheong Wa Dae.

Webb, in response, said he will continue working on ratifying the trade bill, which currently awaits legislative approval in both Seoul and Washington.
