CANADIAN National Railway Company (CN) has announced the acquisition of more than 1,000 new containers to transport grocery and consumer goods to domestic markets across Canada.
About 80 per cent of the new containers are heated for temperature-sensitive goods and the remainder of the boxes are standard dry containers.
Jean-Jacques Ruest, executive vice-president and chief marketing officer, said the railway operator has "established a growing business transporting temperature-sensitive goods in long-haul markets across Canada," he said. "Our continued investment in infrastructure will benefit the reliability of the supply chains of our grocery, consumer goods and manufacturing customers. Together, we want to grow with them."
A statement from the company said that 540 containers will be used to renew its domestic container fleet, while the other 520 new containers will bring the number of units in its domestic fleet to almost 6,000.
