UPS flies fake bomb in wedding cake box from UK to Turkey

2011-04-01 00:00:00

A FAKE bomb has been discovered in a wedding cake box after flying UPS from London to Istanbul, having delivered by a Turkish man and dispatched without detection.

The package, disguised as a wedding cake box held a fake bomb with a timer, wires and detonator, flew on the UPS network which only five months earlier carried the Yemen ink cartridges via East Midlands airport intended to explode on the eastern seaboard of the United States.

The UK transport department said it will begin a vigorous investigations into all aspects of the incident including UPS procedures but did not confirm the UK airport the package flew from. "The UK has one of the toughest security regimes for air cargo in the world. All security measures are subject to continuous review," the official said.

A 26-year-old Turkish male was questioned by police about the bomb hoax, but was released until May. According to the BBC, incident is thought to be a family feud and authorities say it is not terrorist incident.

UPS will assist the British government following its statement that a "suspicious package travelled on board its network".
