FedEx opens third international facility in Suzhou

2011-04-01 00:00:00

FEDEX Express has opened its third station in Jiangsu province's Suzhou, a city that handled US$1 trillion in imports and exports during China's 11th five-year plan and reached $274.08 billion in 2010, an increase of 36.1 per cent year-on-year.

The international express facility is located in the Suzhou New District, providing two offices as well asa FedEx-operated domestic service station in the area. The new facility occupies an area of 2,230 square metres in the Suzhou High Technology Zone to handle the pick-up and delivery of international express shipments for customers in the New District, Wuzhong District and part of downtown Suzhou.

The new station consists of the office and warehouse, including an advanced inbound and outbound sorting system, which can sort up to 3,000 shipments per hour. All packages are connected to the FedEx global network, which includes more than 220 countries and territories, through the nearby FedEx express gateway at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

"The new station will strengthen our operation capabilities and flexibility to support FedEx business growth in Suzhou and east China," said Audrey Cheong, managing director of operations FedEx China.

FedEx introduced its first Boeing 777F to Shanghai in January last year, providing Suzhou and key cities in east China with a two-hour improvement in cut-off times for their US-bound shipments.

Suzhou also benefits from later cut-off times for all FedEx international low-value shipments destined for Europe. The two-hour improvements for US- and Europe-bound shipments have provided customers in Suzhou with more time and greater flexibility in meeting their growing business demands.
