CEVA to manage Husqvarna Motorcycless operation, employees

2011-03-24 00:00:00

CEVA Logistics has signed a two-year contract to handle key logistics activities for Husqvarna Motorcycles inside the customer's 1,200-square-metre warehouse located at the Biandronno plant in Varese, 25 miles north of Milan.

Under the terms of the contract the supply chain management company will manage Husqvarna personnel who are dedicated to the receiving and warehousing of original motorcycle components and supplying them to production.

The agreement with Husqvarna, a member of the BMW group, is intended to increase the efficiency of the motorcycle manufacturer's supply chain activities, by providing valued-added solutions "to ensure total visibility and control of orders through the management of the information systems that aid process planning and monitoring," a CEVA statement said.

According to Thomas Moser, vice president and CFO of Husqvarna Motorcycles in Italy, these value-added solutions will optimise the company's distribution chain, enabling it to achieve efficiency and cost reductions.

As part of Husqvarna's operating model it has leased its logistics business unit to the logistics provider for the duration of the two-year contract, effectively handing over responsibility for the management of its employees and the operation.

"Our ability to adapt to changing demand," said CEVA country manager Carlo Rosa, "makes it possible for us to operate in-house within our customer's production facilities, coordinating and managing their operating resources. CEVA's will work with Husqvarna Motorcycles to further enhance their supply chain and bring significant improvements in their logistics management."
