PORT of Jiangyin has handled 406 Mainland-Taiwan direct shipping vessels with an aggregate cargo volume of over 1 million tonnes since launch of the first direct shipping service on January 25 2009, Xinhua reported.

Jiangyin, a city in eastern China's Jiangsu province, is an important distribution hub for chemicals in China. Since commencement of cross-strait direct shipping service, the port's been handling more direct-shipping vessels and cargoes. During the first three quarters of this year, the port received 215 such vessels, up 55.8 per cent year on year, with 447,000 tonnes of cargoes, up 10.9 per cent.

Jiangyin is one of the first approved direct shipping ports in Mainland. It is also one of the investment hotspot for Taiwan enterprises. At present, there are 500 Taiwanese companies that invested in this city. Launch of cross-strait direct shipping service further promoted more investment in Jiangyin.
