Sydney Port Draws Surcharge for Congestion

CMA CGM announced an emergency congestion surcharge of $82 per 20-foot container on services between Europe and Port Botany in Sydney, Australia, effective Jan. 15, 2011.

The French ocean container carrier said the operational situation at Australia’s biggest container port has worsened over recent months and constant delays had penalized its ships with additional fuel consumption as they increased sailing speeds to maintain schedules.
